Krispy Kreme is at it again, offering a deal on a dozen doughnuts that sounds too good to be true. Lucky for us, it's the real thing. The bakery chain that just introduced the Hershey's Chocomania Collection—four chocolate-lovers donuts available for a limited time—is now offering guests the chance to get the bakery’s Original Glazed doughnuts for just $2.29 a dozen. Why $2.29? The offer is only good for one day and it's a date that only happens once every four years—Leap Day, aka 2/29.

While we may be lamenting the fact that February has an extra day this winter, our favorite sweet treat helps pass the time in the best way. So head to Krispy Kreme to take advantage. The company's Leap Day promo is good for anyone who purchases any regularly priced dozen doughnuts, including the Hershey’s Chocomania donuts, the original or chocolate iced glazed, and its custard-filled doughnuts.

Any customer can get the $2.29 dozen with the purchase of a regularly priced dozen, but only those with a Feb. 29 birthday (proof required) can get a free Original Glazed dozen with no additional purchase. They get special treatment because their true birthday comes along just once every four years, and Krispy Kreme understands they deserve a reward for being good sports in the years they have to celebrate on Feb. 28 or March 1.

We have the perfect idea for turning that $2.29 dozen Original Glazed into Chef David Chang’s super easy dessert—pan fry them, place each one individually on top of melted vanilla ice cream (use the microwave), and then add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. The Momofuku chef says he keeps a box of the Krispy Kreme Original Glazed in his freezer to turn them into the "best dessert."

Good thing Feb. 29 is just a few days away because these doughnuts, and the idea of eating a few fresh and hot and then turning the rest into a fried dessert, is calling to us.
