Kris Bryant not in a lineup a game after getting hit in the head with pitch

Kris Bryant is not in the Chicago Cubs’ starting lineup Tuesday, but there’s no reason to panic. Bryant was hit in the head with a pitch during Sunday’s game, but manager Joe Maddon says the third baseman is “fine.”

Bryant is just getting another day of rest as the Cubs open a series against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. From the sounds of it, he should return to the lineup shortly.

Cubs’ fans should be encouraged to hear that. Bryant left Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies after getting hit in the head with a 96 mph fastball.

Bryant left the game, but managed to avoid a serious injury. The team said he passed his initial concussion tests, and it doesn’t appear he’s had any additional symptoms since then. Outfielder Albert Almora said Bryant was “good” when the two hung out during the team’s off day Monday.

All signs point to Bryant being able to return to action soon. Cubs fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Before they know it, their MVP will be back on the field with only a laceration on his face.

That’s a pretty great outcome, especially considering how scary things looked initially.
