Krampus Terrorizes Unsuspecting Skiers In Odd Video

Thanksgiving has come and gone, meaning the early arrival of Christmas traditions is upon us.

It's not all Mariah Carey and Christmas lights, though -- in parts of Europe, a different, spookier tradition heralds the arrival of the holidays.

Enter the Krampus.

Krampus is a half-demon, half-goat monster from Central European folklore who accompanies St. Nicholas on his Christmas excursions. While St. Nick is the good cop, Krampus is the bad cop, punishing misbehaving children by hitting them with sticks and twigs.

You probably don't need me to tell you why corporations didn't pick up on the idea of a "mall Krampus."

As for the crew of Krampus in this video, I'm not sure how I'd react if they arrived while I was taking a break in the lodge. One moment, you're tucking into a delicious bowl of chili -- the next, you're getting slapped around by a goatman.

But that's part of the holidays in some areas of the world, I suppose. In North America, we endure Christmas music and "holiday cheer" before Thanksgiving. Europeans, in contrast, have a demon infestation.

Honestly, I appreciate the latter's straightforwardness. It doesn't beat around the bush, y'know? There's something insidiously grating about companies pushing the Christmas agenda early, but Krampus is entirely transparent. You know exactly what you're in for with him and his goat-demon buddies.
