Kourtney & Kim Kardashian Are Unrecognizable in This Throwback With Dad Robert

There’s nothing better than a late 1990s photo to remind us of how far fashion has come. Kim Kardashian posted the most epic photo of her, older sister Kourtney Kardashian and their late father Robert Kardashian on Instagram. We hardly even recognize the two sisters behind all of that baby blue pastel.

There was only one word for this photo and Kim summed it up pretty nicely in the caption, “Coolness.” She must have been referring to the three perfectly placed — yes, baby blue — butterfly clips in her hair. The hair accessories were all of the rage in 1998 and 1999. Kim also made sure to match her eye shadow and zip-up hoodie to those hair clips, too. She loved the matchy-matchy look back in those days — and she still does now — nobody works those neutrals better than Kim in her Skims. 

Kourtney toned down the fashion trends more than her younger sister did, but she is also sporting a baby blue cardigan. There isn’t a butterfly clip to be found in her messy do — she had more restraint in those fleeting fashion trends than Kim. The other major thing we spy is those thin eyebrows — yes, we all had them in the late ’90s. We are going to thank Kim for reminding us of how not-so-great that era was, we prefer a thicker brow.

The most important part of the photo — and the heart of their family — was their dad. The Kardashians often talk about his death from esophageal cancer in 2003 and how it affected every part of their lives moving forward. In the prologue to their 2010 book, Kardashian Konfidential, they wrote, “Dad, without you, we know we would not be the women we are today. We know that every blessing in our lives is because you are our angel watching over us.”

Kim is also following in her dad’s footsteps by studying to be a lawyer. It was his work during the O.J. Simpson trial that inspired her love of the law, but she put the idea of law school on hold for many years. Now that she’s following her passion, she told Vogue last year that her dad would have “loved it” and he would have been her “study partner.”

With the Kardashians exiting their infamous reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, in 2021, it’s no doubt that that more of Robert might shine through in Kim’s work as she takes the bar exam — but let’s keep those butterfly clips and baby blues back in the 1990s where they belong.
