KNWA Today: Collect prizes for ‘Movement May’

NORTHWEST ARKANSAS (KNWA/KFTA) — The local nonprofit organization Trailblazers is hosting a community-wide campaign this May, encouraging people to get outside and enjoy the area’s trails.

Calling the campaign “Movement May,” Trailblazers is encouraging people to log their activity using the platform Strava after completing the survey linked here. Trailblazers says they’ll be providing incentives with prizes throughout the month, beginning with a $500 Walmart gift card.

Consumer protection groups around the European Union have filed coordinated complaints against Temu, accusing the Chinese-owned ultra low-cost e-commerce platform of a raft of breaches related to the bloc's Digital Services Act (DSA). For some reference, Temu's parent Pinduoduo reported revenues of nearly $35 billion for 2023, nearly double on the year prior; Temu was estimated to account for about 23% of that amount last year.

A long-running working group in the Senate has issued its policy recommendation for federal funding for AI: $32 billion yearly, covering everything from infrastructure to grand challenges to national security risk assessments. In a final report published by the office of Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the bipartisan working group identifies the most important areas of investment to keep the U.S. competitive with its rivals abroad. "A cross-government AI R&D effort, including relevant infrastructure," meaning getting the DOE, NSF, NIST, NASA, Commerce and half a dozen other agencies and departments to format and share data in an AI-friendly way.
