How did Mickey Guyton and Grant Savoy meet?

Guyton and Savoy were introduced all the way back in 2010 by Guyton's best friend... who also happens to be Savoy's stepsister. But that connection didn't mean that things were automatically easy for the two, and Guyton later admitted that she did her best to push Savoy away from her in the early stage of their relationship.

In May 2019, Guyton shared a series of photos of herself and Savoy in honor of their anniversary on Instagram. She explained in part, "When this man walked into my life I was broken. I put him through hell because I was so hurt. But he persisted and loved me through all of my imperfections and transgressions. He put me on a pedestal that I didn’t think I deserved and showed me I was worth it. He now gives me the courage to be the human and artist that I was always meant to be."

When did Mickey Guyton and Grant Savoy get married?

After announcing their engagement in 2013, Guyton and Savoy got married on June 26, 2017, in Hawaii. The two chose the dreamy wedding destination because Savoy was born in Hawaii and wanted to have a luau at their wedding. As Guyton told People, having a wedding in Hawaii was an easy yes for most of their guests.

She said, "Having a big wedding is really not my thing, so when my family decided on a vacation to Kauai, I thought, 'Why not let it be a family vacation turned wedding?' We got married in front of 23 family and friends on the beach. It was absolutely gorgeous! My husband has family from Kauai so it was important to him to have a luau at the wedding reception."

How does Grant Savoy support Mickey Guyton's career?

In 2020, Guyton opened up about the marriage counseling that she and Savoy went through in 2018. While admitting that she was having a hard time figuring out how to move forward in country music, Guyton credited Savoy with inspiring her to change how she wrote music—and what she wrote about.

Guyton explained to People that Savoy told her she was struggling "because you're running away from everything that makes you different." Instead, he said, she needed to write about what she knows: what it feels like to be a Black woman making her way into country music.

Guyton added, "As long as I can spark conversation, that's really all that matters. All of this music was created from love. And that's what my message is. It's spreading truth and love."

A few months later, Guyton and Savoy shared that they were getting ready to welcome a baby boy, something they were happy about but also feeling heavily about as well. Guyton told People, "I've seen racial injustice happen to my husband. I've had a 'Karen' falsely make claims against him and say some of the most heinous things, like the N-word. I'm growing this Black child in my belly that is going to have to face this."

The pair's son Grayson was born on Feb. 8, 2021. Guyton again returned to Instagram to share a photo of their newborn son and wrote, "The hardest and most beautiful thing I have ever done. Welcome to the world Grayson! Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. - Psalm 30:5."
