Get To Know 'The Mandalorian' Cast — And Find Out All We Know About Season 4

When The Mandalorian series premiered on Disney Plus in 2020, it marked the first time that Star Wars universe delved into the realm of live-action TV shows…and the results have been no less than phenomenal.

Fans immediately took to the gritty, space-western-style scenes and engaging writing that conveyed complex, yet relatable characters along with moments of humor and delight. Many viewers and critics alike say its been the Star Wars title that has come the closest to recapturing the magic of the original trilogy.

The Mandadlorian quickly spawned a second season, which was met with equal acclaim, and season 3 debuted March of 2023 with 1.5 million households tuning in to follow the continued adventures of Din Djarin (aka, the Mandalorian), Grogu (affectionately nicknamed "Baby Yoda"). The newest season was carried by the returning cast of characters, as well as some celebrity cameos and few new faces.

Here, a synopsis of the first three seasons, a quick catch up with The Mandalorian cast and everything we know about season 4.

What happened in season 1 of The Mandalorian?

Becoming the most watched streaming series in the U.S. in 2020, The Mandalorian begins with the Mandalorian, Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal), often referred to as "Mando," as he takes on a bounty to retrieve an unknown target, only with the knowledge that said target is 50-years-old.

When he arrives at the site of retrieval, he discovers the 50-year-old target to be a small green creature, and due to his rare species that lives hundreds of years — the same as Master Yoda — he is in fact considered still a baby.

Mando returns the child in exchange for his bounty, but struggles to ignore the possibilities of the baby's fate. He retrieves the child once again and the duo embark on a season-long journey of dodging those who hunt him.

Where did season two of The Mandalorian leave off?

Season two follows Mando and Grogu on their pursuit of more of Grogu's kind. In order to do so, however, Mando seeks out other elusive Mandalorians to help him on his quest.

Before reaching his people, Mando and Grogu come face to face with obstacles ranging from imposter Mandalorians to fierce dragon-like monsters. Finally, after helping a frog-woman transport her and her eggs to the safety of her husband, Mando and Grogu are directed to the true Mandalorians.

Mando also meets Bo-Katan (played by Battle Star Galactica star Katee Sackhoff), Axe (Simon Kassianides), and Koska (Mercedes Varnado). However, when the trio remove their helmets, Din is hesitant to trust them due to the fact that traditional Mandalorian customs forbid them from doing so. Although Mando refuses their help, they exchange useful information with him in exchange for his help with a raid.

The information points him toward a Jedi by the name of Asoka Tano (played by Rent and Sin City actress Rosario Dawson), who becomes key in Mando and Grogu's journey. The two make their way to the ruins of a Jedi Temple on Tython, where Grogu has the greatest shot at communicating with any remaining Jedi. When Grogu is captured by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Mando joins forces with Bobo Fett and prisoner Migs Mayfield (Bill Burr) to seek him out. On their journey to find Grogu, the duo come across a facial scanner. With Mayfield fearing recognition, Mando breaks his vows as a Mandalorian and removes his helmet.

When Mando eventually makes his way to Grogu under the captivity of Moff Gideon, they find themselves stuck until none other than Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill made young again with the magic of CGI) comes to the rescue in one of the most nostalgic and epic battle sequences on television. In the end, Mando and Grogu part ways, as Grogu joins Luke for jedi training.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian

Season three begins with Mando seeking redemption for breaking his Mandalorian vows by removing his helmet. He is told that the way to do so is by bathing in the living waters beneath the mines in Mandalore. He makes his journey with the help of Grogu and Bo-Katan, and ultimately does what he set out to.

Meanwhile, Moff Gideon has once again entered the picture. Mando, with the help of Grogu —who has decide to forgo Jedi training to remain with Mando—Bo-Katan and the various armies and groups loyal to her, confront Moff Gideon.

In the midst of this, Mando and Grogu discover Moff Gideon's efforts to clone himself and create an army in his image. He is ultimately defeated and killed when the Mandalorian ship crashes into his base.

Bo-Katan rises as the leader of Mandalore, and Mando finally formally adopts Grogu as his own. All is well in the world!

The Mandalorian cast season 3

Behind the metal helmets and VFX are a talented crew of actors and actresses telling these enthralling stories.

Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian, Din Djarin

Pascal officially broke out with the role of Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones, followed by a starring role in the Netflix series, Narcos. Since then, he's made a name for himself as an established Hollywood actor, most recently for his role in HBO's The Last of Us.

However, his role in The Mandalorian is dear to him. “You know, there have been so many surreal moments. I think that there have only been surreal moments as far as this is concerned,” said Pascal in an interview with StarWars.com.

Grogu (AKA Baby Yoda)

Our favorite little green friend comes together through a combination of puppetry and VFX. As far as his signature baby coos that pull on the heartstrings, Lucasfilm sound designer Matt Wood said in a tweet, "Baby Yoda is voiced by a combination of baby samples, bat-eared foxes and kinkajous, & the sound design vocal talents of @DaveAcord !"

Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze

Bo-Katan is a fellow Mandalorian, who aids Mando on his various quests, from keeping Grogu safe, to his journey toward redemption after he broke his Mandalorian vows.

“I was so happy that she was so well received. I mean, listen: love her, hate her. You can hate her. She's done some pretty appalling things in her existence," she explained about the audience reaction to her character's arrival. "But the reaction and overall excitement — and to see people instantaneously know who she was, the moment she landed…was really cool. I loved it," she told Starwars.com.

Carl Weathers as Greef Karga

Greef Karga, the high magistrate of Nevarro, made his first appearance in season one of The Mandalorian. Played by Carl Weathers who is best known as Apollo Creed in the Rocky movies. Karga is an ally to Mando and Grogu, and the three of them have aided one another in times of distress. Weathers actually directed two episodes of the series.

"With such a fantastic crew, being a director in this process has presented me with a wonderful sandbox to play in and I’m so grateful to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for having me be a part of it," he told Hypebeast.

Emily Swallow as The Armorer

The Armorer, played by Emily Swallow, leads the Children of the Watch, the Mandalorian religion Mando subscribes to. She is the one that instructs Mando that bathing in the Living Waters can lead him to redemption.

Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto

A docking bay attendant and ship mechanic on Tatooine, Peli Motto first crossed paths with Din Djarin when he entrusted Grogu into her care during a mission. She has since become a friend to them both and returns in the third season.

Sedaris previously starred in Netflix's wacky sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and worked with The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau on his 2003 Christmas film Elf.

Omid Abtahi as Dr. Pershing

Dr. Pershing, played by Omid Abtahi, comes to serve under Moff Gideon, aiding him in his efforts to use Grogu's blood for his clones. In season 3 he is "rehabilitated" and conscripted to put his brain to use for the New Republic...but it doesn't turn out the way he hopes.

Katy M. O'Brian as Elia Kane

Elia Kane is a former Imperial communication officer serving under Moff Gideon in the second season, Kane returns in the third season living on Coruscant under the eye of the New Republic when she crosses paths once again with Dr Pershing…but her true loyalties are still a mystery.

O'Brian appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in the role of Jentorra, along with television roles in Z Nation, Black Lightning, The Walking Dead, Westworld and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon

The Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul actor has shown his skills as the resident bad guy on The Mandalorian. Esposito plays Moff Gideon, the main antagonist of the series, who wanted to harness the power of Grogu to create an army of force sensitive clones.

Esposito told Collider, "You know, I’ve loved working on The Mandalorian because it’s about wonder and anticipation. When Jon [Favreau] asked if I had any requests for the character, I said, ‘Yes. I want to have a cape like Darth Vader!’”

Rosario Dawson as Asoka Tano

Ahsoka Tano was the Padawan learner of Anakin Skywalker who fought alongside him during the prequel-era conflict and survived the Jedi purge. Din Djarin tracked her down in season 2, seeking answers about Grogu's origin and what best to do with him, which she was indeed able to provide.

A spin-off live-action Ahsoka series is in the works, premiering on Disney Plus, August 23, 2023.

Dawson has also starred in the Marvel Netflix shows Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and The Defenders. Her film work includes Men in Black II, Sin City and its 2014 sequel, and Zombieland: Double Tap.

What do we know about season four?

There is yet to be any official announcement on when the next installment of The Mandalorian will arrive, but fans may want to keep in mind the two year waiting period that has occurred between the last three seasons.

The original plans for Season 4 were to begin the production process in September. That was before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) began striking on May 2, which could affect the start date of filming if an agreement isn't made between the WGA and the film studios soon.

The good news is that the writing for Season 4 is already technically finished, as Jon Favreau confirmed that he started writing the episodes in May 2022 and then confirmed in February 2023 that he was finished.

However, another wrench was thrown into the studio's plans when the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strike started, which means that The Mandalorian's actors will also not be able to work until their guild can settle with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP)

Due to the strikes and the amount of time filming a post production take, many are estimating season for release date no earlier than May and June 2024.

In the meantime we'll be rewatching the first three seasons and We'll be waiting with baited breath.
