Get to Know King Charles’s 10 (Super-Cute) Grandchildren and Step-Grandchildren
On top of being a casual monarch, King Charles is a dedicated grandfather to five grandchildren—not to mention five step-grandchildren. And despite being busy wearing crowns, loathing leaky pens with a fiery passion, and meeting with the prime minister, etc., Charles is a dedicated family man. Just look at him bonding up a storm with Prince Louis:
King Charles—aka Grandpa Wales—doesn’t chat about his grandchildren too often (the royals tend to keep all personal subjects strictly to themselves), but he spends a ton of time with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids. He also got a chance to bond with Prince Harry’s son, Archie, in the first months of his life—before the Sussexes moved across the pond to America.
Back in 2013, King Charles told The Telegraph that being a grandparent is a “different part of your life” and that he wanted to “encourage” his grandkids: “Show them things to take their interest. My grandmother did that; she was wonderful,” he said. “It is very important to create a bond when they are very young.”
Meet all of King Charles’s grandkids below, who—as Charles himself put it—he wants “to look after” him when he’s “tottering about.”
Prince George
Birthday: July 22, 2013
Parents: Prince William and Kate Middleton
Siblings: Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis
King Charles and Prince George have spent a lot of time together thanks to George being second in line to the throne, and back in 2015, Charles noted that they share a love for the outdoors, saying, “He’s one of those characters, I think, who naturally, instinctively likes to be outside. I’m intrigued to see if it lasts, but he loves being outside, which is encouraging.”
Princess Charlotte
Birthday: May 2, 2015
Parents: Prince William and Kate Middleton
Siblings: Prince George and Prince Louis
Charles is said to have a close bond with Princess Charlotte as well, and he once joked, “I was hoping for a granddaughter, someone to look after me when I am very old.” Which, yes, is basically the exact same joke he made before ^^^. Let him live!
Prince Louis
Birthday: April 23, 2018
Parents: Prince William and Kate Middleton
Siblings: Princess Charlotte and Prince George
Prince Louis and King Charles had a special moment that went viral a couple of years ago, when Louis was photographed sitting on his grandpa’s lap at an event (it’s the lead photo of this article due to cuteness). Truly, he’s not like the other kings, he’s a REGULAR king!
Prince Archie
Birthday: May 6, 2019
Parents: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Sibling: Princess Lilibet
Charles hasn’t had a ton of opportunities to spend time with Archie because he’s growing up in California (and because, ya know, the royals are currently feuding). But His Majesty made a cute statement about how excited he was about Archie’s birth while on royal tour, saying, “We couldn’t be more delighted at the news and we’re looking forward to meeting the baby when we return.” Charles was also in attendance at Archie’s christening!
Princess Lilibet
Birthday: June 4, 2021
Parents: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
Sibling: Prince Archie
Princess Lilibet and King Charles met for the first time last June, when Meghan and Harry traveled to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. A source told Hello! that it was extremely special, saying Charles “hadn’t met Lili, his granddaughter, and so to meet her was very emotional, a very, very wonderful thing.”
P.S. On top of his own grandchildren, Charles is step-grandfather to Queen Camilla’s grandkids: Lola Parker Bowles, Eliza Lopes, Louis Lopes, Gus Lopes, and Freddy Parker Bowles. FYI, you’ll see Gus, Louis, and Freddy take on the role of pages at the coronation along with Prince George!
