What You Need to Know About Instagram’s Latest Account, @Creators

Learn the best tips and tricks straight from Instagram itself.

Given social media's fast pace, it's hard to keep up with its best practices. Take Instagram for example. Every day they have new features and announcements. Are 'likes' going to disappear? Is the new feed order really better than the old chronological order? And the most asked question of them all, what's up with the algorithm? However, you asked, and Instagram answered, literally. In September, they launched, @creators, a profile on Instagram that's all about how to be successful creators on the platform we all love so much.

"The whole goal of @creators is really to inspire and empower the next generation of creators on Instagram. So, give them really practical tools and tips but have them hear from the actual people who have done it. We really wanted to make sure there was an authoritative official source from Instagram giving people real facts and information. There’s a lot of misinformation about Instagram that’s out there," Brooke Ozaydinli, Marketing Manager at Instagram tells Teen Vogue.

From FAQ story highlights that address things like Instagram's feed and posts that share if the sound on or sound off is better for IG stories (Hint: Sound on wins by 60%) to not one but two different IGTV series — How I Create and Creator to Creator — @creators always wants to make sure it's providing helpful tips and insight about the product. In other words, transparency. A buzzword that many creators, businesses, and brands use to connect with their customers, readers, and followers. "A lot of this is humanizing and showing the behind the scenes of how Instagram works and why we build the things we build for our creator audience", Ozaydinli shares with Teen Vogue. And budding and established creators alike, agree that transparency is key when it comes to building a brand or business and staying true to yourself while also taking care of your mental health.

For KNC Beauty founder, Kristen Noel Crowley, transparency is a big part of her modus operandi. "With IG, it can be difficult at times, because I feel like I have this image to uphold in a certain way. It’s like in Finding Dory, you just have to keep swimming. So, what I try to communicate now are the things that are happening on the climb up. Every one of us that has been successful or started a business or even a Youtube channel we’ve all had problems and issues but you just have to keep going."

Crowley also shared with us one of her three tips if Teen Vogue readers want to be creators: "Take breaks when you need to". And Instagram's @creator's agrees 100% with her statement.

"We want @creators to be the hub for every established or aspiring creator on Instagram and well being is also a very big component of our content strategy. We have a lot of tips and tricks on how to maintain your well being as a creator. Creators spend way more time on Instagram than other people and you want to make sure they’re doing so in a way that they’re protecting their mental health. Letting people know how to mute people; Letting people know how to comment filters so they don’t certain comments. These are things that are really important for creators on Instagram," Ozaydinli told us.

So, if you want to amp up your creator skills or simply want to stay in the know of all things Instagram from Instagram personnel and other creators alike, you now know who to follow. We know we are!
