New Knit Denim Collection Optimizes the Benefits of Wool

A new collaboration between a brand and their supplier brings wool denim into the spotlight.

Greek design studio Pepper Vally teamed with Südwolle Group, the German producer of dyed and natural worsted yarns in pure wool and wool blends, to develop a collection of wool denim garments.

The duo set out to develop a creative solution to make denim lighter and kinder to the environment, using special yarns and knitting techniques. The collection uses Südwolle’s Seymour yarn for its temperature-regulating properties and the more robust Caprera yarn engineered for durability and water resistance.

The wool yarns were blended with Tencel lyocell and CoolMax Ecomade. The outcome is a range of garments with reduced pilling, enhanced fiber strength, moisture management and softness and comfort.

The men’s and women’s athleisure collection includes knit tees, sports bras, zipper jackets and wide-leg pants.

“The idea was to make garments that feel good, last long, don’t harm the environment, and look great. They’re supposed to be as versatile and durable as your favorite pair of jeans, fitting every part of your day without needing a change,” Südwolle stated.

Inspired by nature, Südwolle said the team embraced imperfections of different textures. Colors were also pulled from stone, wood, forest green and “deep sea indigo.”

Though knit denim has been hit or miss in the market—with Rag & Bone‘s Miramar jeans being one of the most successful examples—Südwolle has high hopes for the concept.

“The project redefines denim, envisioning a future where this beloved fabric is not only comfortable and natural but also sustainable, inclusive, and versatile,” Südwolle stated. “Imagine denim that adapts to all occasions, traceable from its origins and crafted to excel in varying weather conditions—a true green evolution of jeans.”
