The “Knifeliner” Eye Makeup Look Is Breaking the Internet Just in Time for Halloween

Ah, October—the month when beauty junkies everywhere take their talents to a new level and share their Halloween inspiration all over social media. And while their handiwork alone is impressive, the creativity behind some of these ideas is jaw-dropping. Case in point: “Knifeliner.”

The design consists of a silver knife (the blade is usually super sparkly) painted along the upper lash line while the handle acts as the “flick” of the liner to create a quasi-cat’s-eye when your eye is fully open. As if that weren't enough, red droplets are painted under the eyes to make them look like tears (the same red color is used along the waterline to pull the look together).

While patience and a steady hand are obviously needed to create this look, it’s easier than you’d think—all you need is a razor-sharp eyeliner pen (we like Stila’s Stay All Day ($22) option that doesn’t budge), liquid glitter liner like this Precious Metal Liquid Liner ($28) pick from Youngblood, and a red liner pencil. Throw on an all-black outfit and let your eyes do all the talking. A Halloween costume has never looked so good.
