This kitschy Vietnamese restaurant in Miami was just named to the Michelin Guide
A popular Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Miami, was just added to the internationally famous Michelin Guide.
Known for its signature kitschy style, exceptionally eclectic wine list and hidden karaoke machine, the busy, energetic restaurant Tam Tam was announced as a 2024 Bib Gourmand. The designation highlights restaurants that offer good food at moderate prices.
Owned and operated by husbands Tam Pham and Harrison Ramhofer, who met at Florida International University’s school of hospitality in 2017, the restaurant began life as a pop-up at the couple’s home. It then moved into the Asian food hall 1-800-Lucky in Wynwood and later popped up at Low Key in Little River
The current restaurant opened in May 2023, and its fame grew quickly. Here’s what Michelin had to say about Tam Tam:
“On the edge of downtown by the county courthouse, you won’t find a glamorous room, a DJ booth, or anybody in stilettos or designer sneakers. There is no bouncer by the door. Instead, come as you are for this celebration of Vietnamese cooking that started out as a supper club. Much of the food doesn’t require silverware: think wings glossed in fish sauce caramel, smoky lamb with lettuce wraps and banh hoi noodles, and tamarind-glazed pork ribs. Finish with a slice of cheesecake made with cultured cashew cream and topped with passionfruit gelee. Bold, funky and fun, the restaurant is a good time all around.”

We can attest to the beauty of those chicken wings — you absolutely have to order them — but don’t sleep on the scallop pomelo goi, with coconut nuoc cham, rice paddy herb oil, crispy garlic and herbs.
The menu also includes a whole grilled squid, goat curry, salt and pepper frog legs, a lamb wrap and other vegetarian dishes. Items run between $11 and $42, and the whole steamed fish is sold at market price.
Streetlight Tacos, a Mexican spot in Tampa, was also announced as a new Bib Gourmand, while Japanese restaurants Sushi Saint and Zaru in Orlando also made the list.
With the addition of Tam Tam, Miami currently has 19 Bib Gourmands: Bachour, Chug’s Diner, Doya, El Turco, Ghee Indian Kitchen, Hometown Barbecue, Jaguar Sun, La Natural, Lucali, Lung Yai, Mandolin, Michael’s Genuine, Phuc Yea, Rosie’s, Sanguich de Miami, Tinta y Cafe, Zak the Baker, and Zitz Sum.
The announcement comes a week before the guide’s announcement of the 2024 Michelin stars, which will take place on April 18 in Tampa.
