KitchenAid dropped a new color of the year for its iconic stand mixer: Blue Salt

KitchenAid is getting in on the Color of the Year game with the debut of its favorite shade for 2024 — now available for its iconic Artisan Series 5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer. The hue for the year is a gentle but cheerful shade called Blue Salt, which is all about periwinkle vibes (the color continues to have a big moment) but with reddish-pearlescent iridescent overtones for a little extra sparkle.

KitchenAid’s iconic 5-quart tilt-head stand mixer is now available in the company’s 2024 Color of the Year, the subtly iridescent Blue Salt.
The process to choose this year’s signature shade actually started all the way back in 2021. The design team told CNN Underscored that they started out by looking at trends around the world, then took the KitchenAid curatorial eye to hone in on a feeling that could translate to a color.
“This year, we wanted to tap into the feeling of optimistic discovery, about being open to new depth and dimension,” said Brittni Pertijs, the color, finish and material manager at Whirlpool, KitchenAid’s parent company. “Ultimately, Blue Salt felt like a natural fit because we wanted there to be a sense of calm and comfort, but also the element of discovery as seen with the reddish-pearl finish that draws people in and invites them to take a closer look. It’s a calm yet active color that feels whimsical.”
Once the team decided on blue as representing this emotion, it took a little more work to drill down to the exact right hue for the countertop appliance. With the rise of latte-inspired palettes across clothing and home, the blue needed to be a warm, inviting one instead of skewing cold like they can so often do.
To get the new iridescent finish just right, the team used nail polish (yes, nail polish). They layered different chromatic nail polishes over various shades of blue until they hit on the perfect combination: periwinkle with that iridescent, reddish-pearlescent finish that adds a little “salt” to the blue.
