Kit Harington Wants to Get a Haircut After Game of Thrones

“I’ll need to get rid of Jon Snow.”

Kit Harington’s signature hairstyle might not be his calling card for much longer. As Entertainment Weekly reported, the Game of Thrones actor has plans to switch up his grown-out, tousled 'do once filming for the show wraps.

“I’d like to step away and enjoy the obscurity, cut my hair, make myself less recognizable as the character [Jon Snow], and go do and some other things with a completely new look and tone,” Kit told the magazine.

What's more, he promises that the change will definitely consist of more than just a quick trim. Kit specifies that he’s aiming for a “short-short” new length. He does, however, plan on keeping his facial hair. “The beard will be harder to get rid of — I quite like the beard," Kit said. "I like having the long hair and beard both, but it will be like a ritualistic thing. I can’t go into my next role looking the same. This role was brilliant, but I’ll need to get rid of Jon Snow.”

His fellow GoT cast members have worn equally iconic hairstyles throughout the show's duration — ones that they have also shedded in their own ways. (After all, they aren’t the characters they've played since 2011!) Sophie Turner, who plays Jon's half-sister, Sansa, had to touch up her character's red hair on a weekly basis for the show, and whenever she's not filming, has been known to sport her naturally blonde color. And while Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, wears a platinum wig for her character, she's actually a brunette. But sometimes, life imitates art: In September 2017, Emilia bleached her hair, immediately drawing comparisons to her character, and has been rocking the color ever since.

As for Kit, we’ve only caught a brief glimpse of his short hair since the show began; he chopped it all off between seasons five and six in an effort to not reveal whether or not his character had actually died, and if he would be returning for another season. Outside of Winterfell, he's subtly switched up his style for film roles, like his turn in Brimstone, as well as in the HBO mini-series Gunpowder. Judging from Kit’s latest musings, his forthcoming look will be a dramatic departure from Jon's shaggy mop...which is so beloved, it even has its own Twitter account.
