I know what everyone says about washing hair. I know it's bad to wash your hair every day. I know over-shampooing can make hair even drier. But I also know that I don't feel clean if my hair isn't clean, and most dry shampoos are too fragrant and irritate my eyes and nose. So, I've been forced to investigate solutions to keep my hair looking and feeling hydrated, despite my incessant washing.

I've always used hair masks. They're a super simple thing you can use in the shower and it barely takes any extra time. Over the years, I've tried most drug-store-brand masks, but never really felt like my hair was seeing any results. On the hunt for something new, I was browsing the haircare section at Target (one of my favorite ways to destress) and came across Aussie's Miracle Moist 3-Minute Hair Mask. The price was attractive (only $3), and I liked the packaging, too. It's a typical squeeze bottle like most shampoos and conditioners, rather than a jar that you have to scoop product out of (those just never fit well into my shower organizer).

I was intrigued by the ingredients too: avocado and Australian jojoba oil. I had heard of oils for hair like argan, but had never used something with jojoba. Along with its moisturizing properties, jojoba oil is also great for scalp health and keeping dandruff at bay, which is something I also suffer from in the winter months. We all know that avocado offers great health benefits, but its vitamins and minerals are also great for dry hair. Avocados naturally contain biotin, which is said to promote fuller, healthier hair.

About once a week after shampooing, I coat my hair from root to end with the Aussie hair mask. I usually coincide a hair-mask day with a leg-shaving day, so I use that process of washing my body and shaving as my 3-minute timer (the amount of time you're supposed to leave on the mask). The biggest difference I notice after using the mask is in my ends, because that’s where the dryness is most visible. They feel softer, they look softer, and they don't give me tumbleweed vibes when I wake up the next morning. For $3, that's all I can really ask for.
