Kirtland Air Force Base families renew old T-shirts with art

Apr. 25—Numerous families participated in the T-shirt Up-Cycle! event at the Arts and Crafts Center at Kirtland Air Force Base on Thursday, in honor of April being the Month of the Military Child.

Children and their families were encouraged to bring old, stained T-shirts to the center in order to "renew" the shirts by painting on them with fabric paints.

Participants had their choice of various color options and used stencils in the shape of animals, sports balls and flowers to paint designs. Families were walked through how to apply the paints to their shirts and then set loose to showcase their creativity through their designs.

Among the families designing shirts was Jovon and Linda Serrano and their children, 8-year-old Leilani and 5-year-old Elijah. The family could be seen smiling and laughing as they took turns showing off their designs. Similar scenes played out at the other tables at the Arts and Craft Center.
