There’s a lot of content to consume in the 90 Day Fiancé universe. The original show follows couples who have received a K-1 visa, which is uniquely available to betrothed partners of US citizens. The Other Way is exactly what it sounds like—American couples who move to their partner’s home country. “It’s about love,” 90 Day Fiancé executive producer, Matt Sharp, told Gold Derby in May 2022 when asked what makes the TLC reality TV series so popular. “Love is primal, but I think we tapped into a couple of things. One is that this show is incredibly authentic. I’m a huge lover of The Bachelor and that franchise, however, we were one of the first shows to actually tell real stories about ordinary Americans and their love journeys. Also, this show is about this journey with other cultures. When we launched this show in 2014, we were on the ‘love frontier’ of this whole new era of finding people all over the world.”

He continued: “This is the most diverse show on television,” Sharp asserted. “You can challenge me on it. We featured people from 51 countries at this point. We have subtitles. We have people that don’t speak the same language and have completely different cultures. Are Kirsten and Julio still together from 90 Day Fiance: The Other Way? No. In the episode aired on December 11, tensions came to a head for the then-couple.

Kirsten said she understood she “messed up” after Julio was upset about her alleged friendship with another man. “I have never had a woman hurt me as much as you did. I was in love with you I literally thought I was going to marry you. And this whole time you were talking to a whole another f—ing man,” Julio said to Kirsten, who appeared virtually. When Kirsten claimed there was no relationship — just an ongoing friendship with the man, he rebutted that “cheating is not just like the physical sex.”

In a previous episode that aired on September 4, 2023, Julio confessed that he wasn’t ready to pack up and move to the Netherlands. “I am shocked by Julio’s whole attitude,” Kirsten told cameras. “Julio is just totally giving up on this relationship. It’s like he doesn’t care at all.”

Julio insisted that he was compassionate. “I feel like I’m the worst person in the f—king world,” he said. “It’s not a good feeling to watch you cry and not being able to be there for you. Like, it sucks, it’s a horrible feeling.”

InTouch Weekly revealed that, since appearing on the way, Julio has a new girlfriend, raising questions about whether he cheated on Kirsten. He admitted to meeting someone else before he and Kirsten split but said he did not seek her out. Kirsten accused her ex of “lying” about the timeline to “cover-up” for himself. “I saw they’re literally — they’re on dates together and on vacations,” she said tearfully. “So that’s literally the real ways why he broke up because he found somebody else and now he’s like blaming me.”

Julio, a New York-based DJ and self-proclaimed “momma’s boy,” came upon Kirsten on his Instagram explore page and was instantly mesmerized by the Dutch beauty. “I was a little skeptical, but I wanted to see who exactly it is I’m talking to,” he shared. “Seeing her for the first time was like a breath of fresh air. I was like, ‘Damn, she’s gorgeous.'”

A week together in quarantine cemented their relationship and now Julio plans to move to the Netherlands. “I definitely think it fast-tracked the relationship,” Julio explained. “I mean, getting to know each other, I would say, more on an intimate level…like, if I could be in a hotel room with someone for five days, then this is someone that I can see myself being with.”

“Spending time with her and being under the same roof together, I loved it. I got used to the life there,” Julio told producers during his debut on season 5 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way in July 2023. “I love Kirsten’s personality. I like how funny she is. She makes me feel like I’m not alone. So I applied for residency there.”

But first, Kirsten is coming to New York to meet Julio’s mother for the first time. When she arrived, Kristen made a shocking discovery that led them both to question the future of their relationship and Julio suggested Kirsten move to the US rather than he move to the Netherlands.

“I’ve always wanted to move out of the States and live in another country,” he explained in a confessional interview. “I feel like this is not going to be my forever home. But having Kirsten here and knowing that the move is so soon, and having everyone’s reaction here, is making me feel unsure about my decision to move,” wondering if “there’s a world where we can spend time in both places.” He continued, “It’s hard because I’ve already committed to it. I feel like the train has left the station and I’m just going.”

Kirsten wasn’t all too happy about this. “Our plan was always that Julio comes to move with me to the Netherlands and now suddenly he doesn’t sound confident about it anymore,” she said in a confessional. “Julio makes it seem like he’s that adventurous guy that travels all over the world. But now he’s coming up with silly excuses like food that he doesn’t want to leave the United States.”

During the September 4 episode, Kirsten was disappointed at Julio’s backflipping on the subject of him moving to be with her. Julio explained: “I still love Kirsten, but I think that we have to really assess the situation and really look at things for what they are. I think me and Kirsten were living in a fantasy world for a lot of our relationship. You know, the last couple of months have been difficult. If things were going better with me and Kirsten, we would have been able to make it work.”

Kristen broke up with Julio after he admitted that he had things to work out with his family before moving—noting that he wasted her time. “He’s acting like a real piece of s—t,” Kirsten told cameras. “I’m really hurt because I don’t know if Julio ever had real intentions to spend the rest of his life with me. I feel like, did he even care about me? I’m not sure anymore.”
