'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' Official Trailer Shows a Tyrannical Proximus

During the Super Bowl, 20th Century Fox dropped the official trailer for the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The latest installment of the legendary franchise is set to arrive in theaters this spring.

Set almost three centuries after the events of the last film, the 2017 War for the Planet of the Apes, the new trailer gives a glimpse of the new ape leader, Proximus Caesar played by Kevin Durand. Proximus becomes a tyrannical leader and enslaves other ape clans by obscuring the truth of how apes became the dominant species. At this point, humanity has regressed into a primitive state, leaving one human who appears to be smarter than the rest. The film follows a young chimpanzee named Noa who discovers Proximus is hiding the truth from everyone about the enslavement of humans. Noa stands up against him and leads a movement that sees Noa race against time to save the ape society.

The film is directed by Wes Ball and stars William H. Macy, Travis Jeffrey, Lydia Peckham, Neil Sandilands and Peter Macon. The franchise first began in 1968 and is based on the sci-fi novel from Pierre Boulle.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters on May 10. Watch the trailer above.
