King Charles attended church on the Sandringham Estate on Sunday where he has been spending most of his time since announcing he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer. And today, he was back there again after spending one night in London where he is receiving treatment for the disease.

The King was pictured waving while traveling from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace by car today. A Palace spokesperson confirmed that he subsequently traveled back to Sandringham House, while the Queen remained in London to continue public engagements. The pattern so far suggests that the King intends to spend time away from the capital between treatments. The Palace has previously said that he will continue to attend to matters of state and his red boxes of government papers can be received at any residence.

Since announcing the King’s diagnosis one week ago, Buckingham Palace has not given any update on his condition or treatment and made it clear that they will not provide a running commentary. He released a personal message over the weekend thanking the public for their support.

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla is holding down the fort as far as public duties go with another busy week of engagements. Yesterday, she took part in a ceremony at Clarence House which saw her installed as a honorary liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers. And this morning she visited an art studio and creative space where she learned about the support it offered to artists and to the community. The Queen has another engagement later this evening.

During her engagement at the Kindred Studios in west London today, Camilla came face to face with a painting of Princess Charlotte. She toured the studios and was due to meet with an artist who would share his personal journey of recovery from addiction and homelessness and how he was inspired to help others through art.

For a short period of time the Queen was the only one of the four most senior royals carrying out public engagements as the King, Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales all stepped back. Prince William has since returned to some public duties but is expected to continue to modify his timetable while Kate recovers from major abdominal surgery. She is not expected to return to public facing duties until after Easter and Buckingham Palace has not yet said when the King will be able to resume his schedule of engagements.
