King Charles has sent a message of condolence to President Biden following the horrific wildfires in Hawaii. In a note released by Buckingham Palace, the King sent his "deepest possible sympathy" to those affected and said he and wife Camilla's thoughts were with those assisting them.

The message reads:

My wife and I were utterly horrified to hear of the catastrophic wildfires currently burning in Maui, Hawai’i. We can only begin to imagine the scale of the devastation engulfing the island, and the heartrending anguish of those whose livelihoods have been so disastrously affected.

However inadequate it may be, we both wanted to send our deepest possible sympathy to the families of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and our prayers remain with all those whose loved ones are missing and whose homes have been destroyed.

As the recovery effort continues, my special thoughts are with the extraordinarily brave emergency responders and Maui residents who are providing their support and assistance.

CHARLES R.

The King met with President Biden at Windsor Castle in June, when the red carpet was rolled out for the President with a military guard of honour. As Prince Charles, he visited Hawaii in 1985 with Princess Diana on a stopover between Australia and Washington. Reports at the time shared how Charles bodysurfed at Sandy Beach, Honolulu.

The current wildfires have affected the island of Maui, with more than 90 people confirmed dead.
