King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla Attend Service for Queen Elizabeth in Ireland

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla have arrived in Norther Ireland.

Their visit today comes as part of their royal tour across the United Kingdom (highlighted in Operation London Bridge) following Queen Elizabeth's death.

This afternoon, the two arrived at Belfast City Airport, where they were greeted by Lord-Lieutenant of the County Borough of Belfast Dame Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Rt. Hon. Chris Heaton-Harris, and Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport Mr. Matthew Hall. They were also welcomed by two children from a local cross-community primary school.

The king and queen consort then travelled to Hillsborough Castle, the official Royal residence in Northern Ireland, where they were received by Lord- Lieutenant of County Down Mr. Gawn William Rowan Hamilton.

Upon their arrival, the firing of a gun salute (21 rounds) commenced.

While there, King Charles and Camilla took a walkabout outside the castle gates to view floral tributes and greet the public. They also viewed an exhibition of pictures of the late queen during her various visits to Northern Ireland throughout her reign.

Afterwards, the new king hosted a private audience with the secretary of state for Northern Ireland, before meeting leaders of the five main political parties and the speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly.

He and Camilla are also now attending a service of reflection for the late queen at St. Anne's Cathedral in Belfast.

In the coming days, Queen Elizabeth II will lie in state at Westminster Hall for visitors to pay their respects, while King Charles and Camilla will travel to Wales to receive another motion of condolence and attend a service at Liandaff Cathedral in Cardiff.

On Monday, September 19, the queen's funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey.
