King Charles Misses Kate Middleton's Christmas Concert Amid Family Drama

Kate Middleton, once again, rang in the holiday season with her annual Christmas concert, but there was one very important member of the royal family noticeably missing from the festivities.

King Charles, 75, did not attend the annual Together At Christmas caroling event hosted by his daughter-in-law, which took place in at Westminster Abbey in London on Friday, Dec. 8. His Majesty was, instead, busy with an engagement at his Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire, over 100 miles away. His wife, Queen Camilla, was also not in attendance for Princess Kate's concert, per PEOPLE.

Plenty of other royals were in attendance, though, including Prince William and all three of the pair's children: Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Princess of Wales' parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, were also in attendance, as was her sister, Pippa Middleton.

But King Charles' absence seems notable, especially considering the recently drama that has been plaguing the royal family in the aftermath of Omid Scobie's new book, Endgame: Inside The Royal Family And The Monarchy's Fight For Survival. 

In case you need a refresher, Scobie's book discussed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where it was alleged that senior members of the royal family had expressed concern over the color of their son Archie's skin. The couple declined to name any names, except to clarify that Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip weren't the ones behind the racially-charged comments.

While Scobie didn't name anyone specific in his book, a Dutch translation somehow ended up with the names of two specific royals, prompting the book to be pulled off the shelves in the Netherlands and reprinted.

King Charles later gave a response to the scandal when he was asked how he was doing during an event last month.

"I'm all right very much, just about," he told reporters at the time, which came shortly after his 75th birthday on Nov. 14. "Having had a rather ancient birthday recently recovering from the shock of that!"

The naming of two royals in the book's Dutch translation has since been deemed a publishing "error," and Scobie told reporters he is "happy to hear" that it is being fixed.
