As crisis unfolds in Israel-Palestine following horrific acts of terrorism this past Saturday, King Charles has joined other world leaders in weighing in on the situation.

"This is a situation His Majesty is extremely concerned about, and he has asked to be kept actively updated," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said today. "His thoughts and prayers are with all of those suffering, particularly those who have lost loved ones, but also those actively involved as we speak."

The Palace spokesperson added, "His Majesty is appalled by and condemns the barbaric acts of terrorism in Israel." The death toll continues to rise in the region, with Israel saying 1,200 have been killed, with around 150 people estimated to be held hostage in Gaza. According to Gaza officials, over 900 Palestinians have been killed as Israel retaliates.

In 2020, Charles visited Israel and Palestine, becoming the most senior British royal to undertake an official visit. While there, he met former Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. In addition, he delivered a speech at the World Holocaust Forum.

During his trip, he also visited the grave of his grandmother, Prince Philip's mother Princess Alice of Greece, who is buried on Jerusalem's Mount of Olives. She sheltered a Jewish family in Athens during World War II, and was honored by Israel's Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, as Righteous Among the Nations.

Charles had previously visited Jerusalem in 1995 and 2016 to attend funerals, but 2020 marked his first state visit.
