Kind Social Media Users Singlehandedly Cover Animal Sanctuary's Vet Bills

Fans of The Asher House animal sanctuary were recently devastated by the news that canine pneumonia was spreading through the rescue, but owner Lee Asher took to TikTok to provide some much-needed good news. Despite the passing of one beloved dog, the outpouring of support from fans helped everyone rally after the tragedy.

In fact, dog lovers and TikTok viewers completely funded the Oregon-based animal sanctuary's veterinary bills and medical costs! As Lee explains in the August 6 update, the generous donations helped him buy lifesaving equipment for the dogs.

We're so relieved to see that Lillie is back home! In fact, all of the sanctuary's dogs are recovering (or are healthy) at home. This is all thanks to the viewers who helped The Asher House afford oxygen chambers, medication, and even lifesaving surgery for the sick dogs.

This is a great example of the power social media can have, too. Lee only posted one video telling viewers about pneumonia that was making its way through the sanctuary, and that one video inspired enough donations to cover the entire vet bill. As Lee says in the video--they don't need any more donations!

Instead, anyone who feels moved to help can donate their time or money to a local animal shelter. Across the nation, pet shelters are understaffed, underfunded, and overcrowded, so a little help can go further than you think. For example, one viral video can potentially help multiple pets get adopted! There's no wrong way to help shelter animals, but if you don't know where to start, don't hesitate to reach out to see what they need.
