Kim Kardashian Wore a Onesie and Redefined Airport Style Forever

Kim Kardashian jets around the world promoting morning sickness pills, Hype Energy drinks, and her addictive game. Runway shows, photo shoots, and various other media appearances also require her to travel. So it comes as no surprise that Mrs. West has airport style down to a science. On Wednesday, she introduced an innovation in travel fashion: onesies.
Spotted making her way through LAX dodging paparazzi and fans vying for autographs, the 33-year-old wore a black jersey onesie with ankle boots and a long sweater. It’s definitely an interesting choice for many reasons. While rompers and jumpsuits are definitely trendy, tight bodysuits are typically reserved for gymnasts and as a layer for cold winter nights. Taking the piece from undergarment status to statement piece is definitely a bold move. Getting through security, even the special one for famous people, must be a breeze, and just from the looks of it, the ensemble seems incredibly comfortable and surely comfort is key when you’re pregnant and flying.
But there are drawbacks as well. Without a long-john flap, going to the bathroom requires stripping down, and that can be uncomfortable (although that’s most likely something the reality star doesn’t worry about). Also, unflattering bunching is basically inevitable with such a body-hugging piece.

This actually isn’t the first time that the expecting mother-of-one has worn a onesie. In January she was spotted — again, at Los Angeles International Airport — wearing a bodysuit. For that trip, she opted for a more fleshy pink and topped it with a long, light pink Lanvin trench coat (she wore the jacket again recently to the movies with daughter North West, and the 2-year-old stained it with butter).

It’s possible her affinity for the look comes from husband Kanye West. It’s no secret that the rapper holds great influence over his wife’s style, and he actually featured bodysuits in his recent collection for Adidas, at New York Fashion Week in February. Models in “Yeezy: Season 1” wore nude, maroon, brown, and slate grey stocking suits with distressed sweaters and oversize jackets over them. Kardashian’s worn pieces directly from the line before — including at the show and even in a magazine spread shot by Juergen Teller.

Maybe Kardashian’s bodysuits are a sign: “Yeezy: Season 2” will not only happen, it’ll also be filled with jersey onesies.
