Kim Kardashian West Doesn't Agree With Trump on Everything, but She Still 'Wants Him to Win'

Kim Kardashian West expressed her desire for President Donald Trump to succeed in office and squashed the idea that she wants to run for office herself in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The interview, which focused mostly on Kardashian West’s KKW Beauty line, ended with a discussion about activism and political beliefs. The reality star says she tries to “see all sides” and said of Trump, “There’s obviously a lot that we don’t agree with, but I want him to win. I want him to succeed, because it’s our country. It’s so crazy that everyone doesn’t want that.”

The mogul received mixed reviews when she met with the president at the White House last month to negotiate the clemency of Alice Johnson, a 63-year-old grandmother serving a life sentence without parole for a nonviolent, first-time drug charge. Some praised her for using her platform for a good cause while others shamed her for meeting with the president at all. Notably, Kardashian West’s husband, Kanye West, received an onslaught of criticism when he aligned himself with President Trump in April, a stance the beauty mogul was quick to distance herself from on Twitter.

While Kardashian West may have been welcomed by President Trump with open arms (she says she “definitely saw a lot of compassion from the White House” in regard to her meeting about Alice Johnson), not everyone has seen that same side of the President. When asked about family separation enforced under Trump’s “zero tolerance” illegal immigration policy, Kardashian West called the issue “really complex” and “heartbreaking,” adding, “I hope that it all gets resolved. You don’t want to see these things.”

As for whether or not the reality-TV star would consider running for office herself, Kardashian West joked that she regretted ever hinting that there might be a sliver of a chance. “I said in one interview, ‘Never say never.’ And then I was like, ‘Why did I say that?’ I don’t have political aspirations. I really don’t!” While she says she has a gift as a mediator, she’s frank in admitting, “I don’t understand everything. I think it would be hard to jump into something like that unless you had a lot of experience. I’m definitely learning a lot.”

But just because she isn’t throwing her hat into the political ring doesn’t mean Kardashian West is done with her activism.

“It’s a longer-term mission for me,” she said. “I never started out thinking I was being political. I just thought I was helping people, and I knew that I had the opportunity or the resources, so I used them.” Kardashian West said her work with Alice Johnson is “just the beginning” and that she intends to use her resources to help more people in the future. Currently she is advocating for death row inmate Kevin Cooper.
