Can you spot the vintage piece in Kim Kardashian West’s ensemble? Hint: It really is the shining addition to the mogul’s outfit. Last night, after Kardashian West’s dinner at Saks L'Avenue to celebrate the launch of her new KKW Beauty palette with Winnie Harlow, she stepped out in a black shirt with diving décolletage and a silver glitter-coated mini skirt with a lace trim, finishing the look with a pair of her signature PVC thong sandals. If you guessed that the vintage item was the disco-ball glinting skirt, you're quite right. The piece is straight from the Fall 1996 Versace collection, where it was worn by bombshell model Karen Mulder on the runway. Kardashian West herself posted an image on her stories of supermodel BFFs Amber Valletta and Shalom Harlow, who wore the skirt with a similar black shirt for the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards in 1996.

We haven’t seen Kim Kardashian West wearing as much vintage as she used to over the past few months. Remember her rotating collection of Tom Ford-Gucci, or the two very iconic (and very expensive!) Azzedine Alaïa looks she wore one day after the other? We also know, of course, that she loves a good clingy, semi-sheer Jean Paul Gaultier moment, and that she also has a long history with wearing Naomi Campbell-beloved pieces from, once again, Versace.

But while Kardashian West very much drives whether or not trends will die or explode, it is nice to see that her love for archival hasn’t fallen by the wayside. So too does she seem relatively invested in learning about where these archival pieces hail from and who has worn them. (She didn’t, after all, post that Amber and Shalom image by chance!) Let’s hope that when it comes to special garments from yesteryear, emerging celebrities take a page from Kardashian West—and do their fashion homework.
