Kim Kardashian West Renames Her Shapewear Label After Kimono Controversy

Earlier this summer Kim Kardashian West found herself in some trouble over her choice to name her debut shapewear label Kimono. Deemed culturally insensitive by fans and critics alike, Kardashian West decided within just a week that she would be halting production in order to rename the brand. Today she took to Instagram to announce that the line is now called Skims Solutionwear and will be launching on September 10. In the caption for an image taken by artist Vanessa Beecroft, Kardashian West explained, “My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me—I am always listening to their feedback and opinions and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name.” She also added, “I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies.”

Skims Solutionwear will be available in sizes XXS to 5XL, and the new campaign imagery features a diverse range of women wearing the nude-colored bras, underwear, and bodysuits, which appear to look the same as they did when they were released under the Kimono label. Kardashian West did the right thing by renaming her line, especially given her intent with this project to create shapewear that fits women of all shapes, sizes, and colors. There’s no doubt that Skims Solutionwear will be a success, and hopefully Kardashian West has learned a valuable lesson along the way.
