While Kim Kardashian West might have hit the red carpet at this Wednesday’s WSJ Innovator Awards in a fashion-forward denim corset top and pant-boot combo, her morning-after look was far more down-to-earth—and concrete jungle-ready. Yesterday, she stepped out in a classic New York street style look, wearing a cold-weather coat of oversize black shearling over a tight brown top. For a touch of something sleeker, she opted for Helmut Lang patent leather pants; then, to ground the look, a pair of hiking-style boots.

Kardashian West’s Big Apple daytime ensemble was a far cry from the body-hugging, barely-there styles that she sports in the warmer climes of her home in Calabasas, California. We often see the reality-star-mogul in curve-skimming outfits, from Versace archive dresses, to skin-baring Mugler bodysuits. Nevertheless, even with her seemingly down-to-earth New York street style moment, Kardashian West didn’t skimp on that West Coast glam: She accessorized the casual city-minded get-up with none other than a gleaming red croc Hermès Birkin bag. You can take the girl out of Calabasas, but you can’t take Calabasas out of the girl.
