Kim Kardashian Went to Extreme Lengths to Prevent Baby Chicago From Getting the Flu

The flu is apparently "going around" her house.

Obviously, no one wants to get the flu, but it's especially important to prevent it from spreading to young children. In fact, as Kim Kardashian knows, helping your kids avoid the flu is a top priority, which is why she sent 10-month-old baby Chicago to Cleveland.

"Yesterday was a hard day because we have the flu going around," Kardashian recently told Extra. "So once the flu happens, and I felt it in the house and my baby didn't have it—Chicago—I sent her to Cleveland with Khloé." Kardashian said she asked her sister to "please take [Chicago] for like four days, because she'll get sick [at home] with everyone.“

If you think that sounds a little extreme, you might be right. But it's also a great reminder of just how important it is to keep young kids protected from the flu.

For most healthy adults, the flu isn't pleasant, but it's also not usually life-threatening. In some cases, though, the flu can lead to complications that might be more moderate (such as ear infections) or more severe (such as pneumonia, inflammation of the heart or brain, or organ failure), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

But some people are more at risk for developing complications from the virus, and that includes young children (particularly those under the age of 5, and especially those younger than 2). Other at-risk groups include the elderly, those with already weakened immune systems, and people who have chronic health conditions (like asthma or diabetes).

That's why it's so important for anyone who spends a lot of time around people within those groups—and, actually, everyone—to prevent the spread of the flu in any ways that they can. For most of us, that primarily includes getting the flu vaccine, but it also means practicing good hand hygiene and, if needed, limiting contact with other people while you're sick.

So, although some people may think that sending Chicago across state lines to avoid the flu is a bit over-the-top in that uniquely Kardashian way, we applaud Kim for her dedication to flu prevention.
