Kim Kardashian Is Successfully Making Swim Gloves a Thing and Twitter Has a Multitude of Thoughts

PSA: Swim gloves are officially a thing now. Plan the rest of your summer accordingly.
For anyone thinking "lol good one" or simply, "um, wut?," here's what you need to know:
1. Swim gloves are exactly what they sound like/what you're picturing.
2. Unless you're picturing mittens, driving gloves, or any other other wrist-length hand coverings because swim gloves are dramatic, elegant elbow-length gloves (you're already wearing gloves in the water at this point, embrace the drama, right?). Here's Bella Poarch modeling a pair for visual reference:
3. Kim Kardashian is selling swim gloves over at Skims, where they come in seven colors (mostly neutrals and skin tone shades with a taffy hot pink—ASO Bella Poarch, again, below—thrown into the mix for good measure) and nine sizes (XXS to 4XL).
4. Kim Kardashian's swim gloves cost $48.
5. Kim Kardashian's swim gloves flew off the digital shelves and are now a wait list-only item because so many people wanted to pay $48-per-pair to own (and presumably wear) them.
6. Twitter, naturally, has a MULTITUDE of thoughts about this entire situation.
We're going to focus on that last point now because, truly, Kim's swim gloves have inspired an impressive range of reactions. Keep scrolling for a selection of some of our favorite basic categories of said reactions.
The obligatory "I can't believe people actually want to spend $48 on these" reactions:

Feels like fancy gloves are having a bit of a revival. I've been seeing them more often than usual by lingerie designers recently, and now these swim gloves by SKIMS. https://t.co/HpSOhVfJFK pic.twitter.com/HHW46Pykw3

And, ofc, the very practical issue of a new tan line to contend with:

Of all the swim gloves reactions though, the one that probably deserves the most/all of the attention came from a Twitter user who pointed out the very serious way the trend could benefit many people.
"@skims swim gloves are revolutionary and here’s why," the user, whose display name is ғaѕт and тнe cυrioυѕ, explained. "This is a game changer for people with different skin conditions. One example is that sun exposure can affect people with vitiligo by causing additional depigmentation and damage to their skin."

When you look at it that way, the upcoming weird arm tan line trend that's waiting for us in the fall seems pretty worth it, actually.
