Kim Kardashian Says She "Got in Trouble" With Kanye West For Letting North Wear Makeup
It didn’t take long for North West to become a teeny, tiny fashionista. As the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, North has grown up in the spotlight, complete with a designer wardrobe and an ever-developing eye for style (just look at the time she attempted to re-create her mom’s signature contouring technique).
Despite seemingly taking an interest in makeup, it seems as though North’s father, Kanye, isn’t too thrilled with his 6-year-old sporting eyeliner or lipstick. In an interview with E! News, Kim revealed that Kanye recently enforced a “no makeup” policy for their daughter after she previously allowed North to experiment with various products.
“I think he had it, he changed all the rules,” Kim said, noting that North also received some makeup products from Aunt Kylie, who would sometimes give her some of her famous lip kits. “I'd let her wear, you know, she has a little red for Christmas, I'd let her wear a red lip, or I'd let her do one pop of something. I'd let her, if she's wearing a black dress, a black lip.”
Despite the fact that North is still supposedly allowed to “weigh in” on her fashion choices, Kim revealed that, for now, it’s “no more makeup,” adding: “I kind of got in trouble for that.”
It would seem that Kanye might have a bit of a tough time keeping North out of Kim’s beauty stash; the reality star and designer previously explained that their 6-year-old has expressed interest in creating makeup tutorials of her own. “My daughter watches so many YouTube tutorials and videos, and she was unboxing the My Little Pony ColourPop collection, and I thought to myself, 'I wish I was recording this,' because her reaction was so funny,” Kim told WWD in 2017. “And then she did makeup on the My Little Pony that they gave, and she said, 'Mom, I want to do a YouTube video.’”
Although Kim and Kanye’s answer at the time was “no,” Kim admitted that keeping her children off of social media is an uphill battle — and one she’s not sure she even wants to fight. “It's always a struggle on how much you want to have exposed or how much access you want them to have to have to social media,” she said back in 2017. “In the world we live in today, I don't think you can ask someone young, growing up, to not be on social media — that's just cruel. That's like asking [someone] to not communicate.”
As for North’s future as a beauty vlogger, that remains to be seen. But if there’s one thing we know about Kim and Kanye’s daughter, it’s that she certainly has a unique style of her own — no neon eyeliner required.
