What Kim And Kanye’s Body Language Really Says About Their Relationship
Kim Kardashian is pretty real about the fact that being married to Kanye West, and raising three children together, isn’t always smooth sailing. On Keeping Up with the Kardashians, she and Kanye have bickered over everything from Instagram posts to Band-Aids, for god's sake.
Sure, Kim seems like an open book-but what goes on when the reality show's cameras aren't running? Terri Orbuch, Ph.D., author of 5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage From Good to Great, and a professor at Oakland University in Michigan, took a look at Kim and Ye’s body language to analyze the depths of their love-beyond their joint, and very vocal, passion for Family Feud.
Kim tends to take the lead.
Kim walking in front of Kanye and the distance between them isn’t necessarily a bad thing, according to Orbuch. It reveals how comfortable Kim is in control, and how chill Kanye is about following her. They’re both clearly confident in their relationship, and the space between them shows how much. Rather than playing up their affections for the cameras, they’re taking their own strides, but heading in the same direction.
But when Kanye does, he reaches back for Kim's hand.
Here, Orbuch says Kanye’s reminding Kim that he hasn’t forgotten about her by reaching back. She reads this moment as one where Kanye’s saying: “I support you. I’m here for you.” And the look on Kim’s face says she’s into it.
Kim's hand on Kanye's knee speaks volumes.
Orbuch is all about the flirtatious affection Kimberly was giving off at this runway show. She says, Kim’s hand placement and the way she’s leaning into him says, “I see you, I care about you, and I feel close to you.”
When they're good, they're real good.
This body language is super-positive, Orbuch says. And it's probably because the two announced they were expecting their first child the day before, according to People. Not only are the stars close, they’re also looking deeply into each other’s eyes. How about a round of applause for their ability to keep so focused in this crowded club, huh? The embrace says, “I feel happy with you in my life!” according to Orbuch.
Kanye’s stance is supportive.
This moment presents "Kim as a strong and powerful woman,” says Orbuch. Kanye’s position behind her, and his hand placement show how supportive and proud Kanye is of Kim. He’s telling her, “I’m there for you” when he does this.
They feel secure in their love.
“There is a lot going on around them,” say Orbuch. She even notes that Kim’s sheer dress must have been the main event. “But each of them is saying: ‘There may be chaos around us-but I only see you.’” The fact that they're each standing so tall demonstrates how confident they are in the relationship and in the other's love.
They have each other's backs.
Orbuch didn’t see this stance as one where Kim comes before Kanye, but one where Kanye was backing Kim and supporting her. His body language says, “I have your back sweetie!" and "You got this, you are amazing.”
