Kiernan Shipka Makes a Strong Case for Brushed-Out Curls

Regardless of your hair texture, most curly girls can agree on one thing: not all brushes are created equal. Many worsen frizz, cause dullness, and if you’re using the wrong brush, breakage can also take a toll.

But at an AOL Build Series event in New York City on Thursday, Kiernan Shipka wore undefined, brushed-out curls that looked youthful but chic.

The 17-year-old Mad Men actress opted for a deep side part, smoothing the roots of her hair with a blow dryer and paddle brush, and adding definition with a small curling iron. Before brushing out her curls, she applied a light hair oil — like Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil — to tame flyaways and ensure a look that’s soft, weightless, and not frizzy.

Accessorizing with bobby pins, a healthy glow, and cherry gloss on her lips, Shipka looked elegant beyond her years.
