Kidsfest to descend upon Stramler Park this May

As summer fast approaches and the kids become restless, parents look no further: Bakersfield Kidsfest is your answer.

On May 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Stramler Park, a bouquet of activities, games and attractions will be available to kids of all ages.

Some activities will be water-themed — think water slides — while others will be sports-related, such as a 73-foot obstacle course, giant soccer balls, a basketball shooting challenge and more.

For the more creative and generally less competitive, there will also be face painting, a Funland Express Train, balloon artists, crafts, and dancing. DJ Wreck will provide the music. Educational segments on healthy living will also be placed throughout the family resource center.

And the Little Tykes corner — designed for children under the age of 5 — will feature three bounce houses resembling a carousel, pirate ship, crayon funland and giant 20-foot Ferris wheel.

Food vendors will be onsite, selling all the typical gourmets of festival fanfare — burritos, chicken strips, burgers, pizza, BBQ and more. There will also be plenty of treats, from cotton candy to funnel cakes and root beer floats.

Attendance in past years has neared 2,000 people.

The event will be held at Stramler Park, 4003 Chester Ave. Tickets start at $5 and $10 for activity wristbands, $32 for family pack (four admissions, two wristbands), free admission for children 2 and younger.
