While Dr. Bode said that widespread masking for kids isn’t yet necessary, she recommended speaking to a doctor about masking if your child has a health condition that impacts their ability to fight off infections.

In addition, poor air quality still continues to impact areas of the country following a wildfire season that left areas of the Northeast and northern Midwest swathed in smoke. According to the CDC, children can be even more affected by smoky air, since their lungs are still developing as they grow. Kids with asthma or other respiratory health issues could be at greater risk of difficulty breathing.
