KFC Teases Big Upcoming Menu Changes

A handful of items will be removed from the menu to make room for new additions.

KFC is making some major menu moves that might not sit well with longtime customers.

In an effort to make ordering easier and create a more efficient kitchen for staff, the fast food chain has decided to simplify its menu, which means cutting some fan-favorite items.

Here are the following items that will no longer be offered by the chain:

  • Kentucky Fried Chicken Wings

  • Popcorn Chicken

  • Nashville Hot Sauce

  • Strawberry Lemonade

  • Chocolate Chip Cookies

“We took a deep look at the mix of the menu to see where consolidation would make sense, and we rolled out new menu boards in November 2022,” said Brittany Wilson, director of KFC U.S.

And though change can be tough, Wilson notes that removing a few items will make way for some “new, exciting additions to the menu in 2023.”

WGN reports that pot pies and tenders seem to be marked safe at this point, however, the KFC Famous Bowls, which are made with popcorn chicken, might not be spared.

It’s also unclear whether the fan-favorite Twister Wrap, which returned to menus for a limited time recently, would earn a permanent spot.

Some new menu items could include two new chicken sandwiches, which the company is testing out in the Tampa, Florida market.

The variations of the chicken sandwich are the Ultimate BBQ KFC Chicken Sandwich and the Spicy Slaw Chicken Sandwich.

The Ultimate BBQ KFC Chicken Sandwich includes an extra crispy filet with KFC’s Honey BBQ sauce, crispy fried onions, hickory-smoked bacon, melted cheese and pickles served on a brioche bun.

The Spicy Slaw Chicken Sandwich includes an extra crispy filet, KFC’s signature coleslaw, spicy mayo and pickles served on a brioche bun.

“The KFC Chicken Sandwich is the best in the business, and we’re excited to expand our chicken sandwich lineup with two new premium options,” KFC U.S. CMO Nick Chavez said in a statement to Nation’s Restaurant News.

The new sandwiches and wraps are part of the chain's strategy to expand the brand’s consumer base to younger demographics, including modern families with children.

As for when the changes may go into effect, there is currently no definitive date, with the company saying the new menu will be rolled out nationwide this year.
