But it is, not surprisingly, deep-fried.

KFC is all about the chicken. Whether it’s a bucket of drums and thighs, a chicken sandwich, or even, as of this past spring, chicken nuggets, the Colonel has you covered. But KFC brings more to the table than just chicken. Now you can get a little something sweet after all that savory chicken goodness with its new Funnel Cake Fries.

Funnel Cake Fries originally debuted in select Midwest markets in late 2022. The fries were seemingly reminiscent of carnival funnel cake, with a crispy exterior, a fluffy interior, and dusted with powdered sugar.

On a Reddit thread, KFC employees revealed that the sweet menu item has returned to some locations of KFC for a limited time, and the popular Snackolator account on Instagram distributed the information on social media.

We reached out to KFC to confirm if the rumors were true. According to a spokesperson for the brand, Funnel Cake Fries are back, but only at select locations belonging to a specific franchisee, KBP Brands. The KFC spokesperson said, “In November 2022, Funnel Cake Fries were tested by KFC franchisee KBP Brands at select KBP-owned KFCs. KBP recently began offering the menu item at additional restaurants only as a limited-time offer (available while supplies last).”

KBP Brands has not indicated which franchise locations will have the item in store, though one person on the Reddit thread noted that their store located in North Texas did have them. Be sure to check your local KFC to see if you're near one of the lucky locations that get to try the Funnel Cake Fries. If not, you’ll have to cross your fingers for a wider release in the future. In the meantime, you can satisfy your fair-food urge with homemade funnel cake.
