KFC Is Finally Bringing a Global Bestseller to the U.S. For the First Time Ever

You'd never guess what it is.

In a world where fast food chains are constantly releasing new innovations that seem to be a little outside their original lane, there’s one brand that will always stand by its OG menu item. Because what does KFC know better than fried chicken?

Sure, there’s no better way to showcase the Colonel’s famous recipe than with a bucket of the iconic chicken, but we’re still always looking forward to the next new mouthwatering rendition.

A year after KFC brought back its hilariously wacky Double Down sandwich, which featured two pieces of fried chicken in place of a bun with bacon, cheese, and mayo or spicy sauce, the chicken chain is up to its menu antics again. This time, Kentucky Fried Chicken is turning to a different kind of mashup—one that’s been a bestseller at its global chains since 2015.

On Feb. 26, KFC will introduce its fan-favorite Chizza to U.S. menus for the first time ever. Yep, you guessed it, it’s a fried chicken-pizza mashup. But, just like the Double Down, there’s no bread. Instead, the fried chicken acts as the crust that’s topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni.

KFC’s Chizza debuted in the Philippines in 2015 and has since traveled around the world to join menus in Germany, India, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand. Now, the Chizza (pronounced “cheet-za”) has finally come stateside for a limited time.

“Fried chicken and pizza collaborated to create something even better – the Chizza,” said Nick Chavez, KFC’s CMO. “The fan-favorite mashup is finally available in the U.S. after making its way around the world — try it while you can!”

The Chizza will be available nationwide beginning Feb. 26, but fans in New York City who are too excited to wait will be able to try the new offering early. On Feb. 23 and 24, KFC’s restaurant at 242 East 14th Street will be transformed into the first-ever “Chizzeria.” The pop-up, which will open from 1-9 p.m. EST, will only serve the hot and fresh Chizza for fans to try for free before the official menu launch.

But, once it hits menus on the 26th, the Chizza can be enjoyed on its own or as part of a combo meal with fries and a medium drink.

Additionally, KFC is bringing back its Blackberry Lemonade to join the Chizza on its limited-time run.

Is KFC about to become our favorite fast food pizza place? Only time will tell.
