KFC Doubles Down on Promise to Overhaul Menu
The fast food chain is bringing back a beloved menu item.
Kentucky Fried Chicken is bringing back a cult-favorite menu item!
That's right, the fast food chain is reintroducing the double down for the first time in nearly a decade.
In case you forget, the fan-favorite double down features two slices of cheese, two pieces of crispy hickory smoked bacon, with either the Colonel's real mayo or spicy sauce all smashed together between two of KFC's extra crispy, 100 percent white meat chicken filets–but the catch is, there's no buns!
The double down had its inaugural debut in 2010 with more than 10 million sandwiches being sold in the first month. They initially stopped selling the sandwich and brought it back in April of 2014. So, this iteration is its third revival.
"The Double Down is one of the most buzzworthy fast food menu items ever," Nick Chavez, KFC U.S. CMO, said in a statement. "After nearly a decade of people begging for its return, we're embracing the chaos, bringing back our most iconic sandwich ever for just four weeks."
The double down will be available to purchase nationwide starting Monday, March 6 for just four weeks!
For those of you who still love a traditional sandwich with carbs, KFC is also introducing a brand new menu item–the premium Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich.
The sandwich features a double-breaded, extra crispy, 100 percent white meat filet, a slice of cheese, two pieces of hickory smoked bacon, the Colonel's real mayo, and pickles on a freshly toasted brioche bun.
"We realize leaving the buns behind isn't for everyone, so our newest Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich was designed for those who are looking for the crave-able taste of bacon and cheese added to the chicken sandwich perfected by the fried chicken experts," Chavez added.
The new Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich will also be available at KFC starting March 6 for a limited time only.
In addition to the new–and not so new–sandwiches, KFC will host a Double Down Drop on March 5, allowing a few select fans to get the first taste of the reinvented double down one day before the rest of the country.
Fans can sign up at www.kfcdoubledowndrop.com today, March 2. Consumers will want to jump on this as the pre-order is only available on a first-come, first-served basis for the first 2,014 consumers, a slight nod to when the Double Down was last offered on the KFC Menu.
The fast food chain will also be rewarding a select group of Double Down super fans with custom merchandise that they can rock while enjoying the return of the beloved and long-awaited sandwich!
Guests can order the Double Down in restaurants and online by using Quick Pick-Up through the KFC app or KFC.com. After placing a digital order, guests can head to their nearest restaurant, park in the dedicated parking spots, and run inside to grab their meal on KFC's Quick Pick-Up shelf.
