Kevin Love is known for being many things: a phenomenal basketball player and integral part of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ lineup; a philanthropist, especially when it comes to helping out children; and an overall good-looking, stand-up dude. Yet among his well-dressed peers that sit front row at New York Fashion Week — teammate LeBron James, OKC’s Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks, for example — he definitely hasn’t been a first draft pick in the sartorial game. But all that’s about to change. On Thursday, Banana Republic announced that the 27-year-old has been tapped as the brand’s first style ambassador.

The Banana Republic appointment marks the company’s first activation with a sports influencer. The Olympic gold medalist will be featured in a campaign and will show off items from the spring 2016 collection, which hits stores on March 8. In a recent Instagram post teasing the collaboration, Love, showing off strong layering skills (a white, collared shirt with a black, hooded puffer jacket and a tailored slate overcoat), wrote that’s he’s “getting involved in the fashion game” — and boy, is he excited about it. Already a brand ambassador for Starter (the athletic apparel retailer famous for its team-themed bomber jackets), Love is interested in this latest endeavor especially because fashion’s been an evolving interest and “partnering with a classic brand like Banana Republic really allows me to take it to the next level that matches my own style.”

While fans mainly recognize him in uniform, he’s a big fan of a tailored suit. “You can make it casual with a sweater or T-shirt underneath, or you can dress it up with a button-up if the occasion calls for it.” That being said, the rise of the athleisure trend has been huge for him. Especially with all the traveling he does, being able not only to get away with wearing sneakers and a suit but to have it applauded by the fashion police is major. “I’m all about looking good while feeling comfortable.”
