Kevin James Opens About Extreme Weight Loss After Fasting for Over 40 Days

Kevin James recently got candid about some of his previous weight loss methods, and it's safe to say he sometimes takes dieting to the extreme.

The 58-year-old comedic actor said he once shed about 60 pounds after fasting for over 40 days—something he did out of a desire to lose weight quickly as well as for religious reasons.

According to James, who recently appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast,  the King of Queens alum once went "41 and a half" days without any food at all, consuming only "water and a little salt" to restore his electrolytes. In other words, he was crash-dieting.

"When I lock on, I can do something," James explained to Rogan. "I started fasting, I didn't say 'I'm going to do 40 days,' I just said 'I'm going to do whatever I can.'"

While he admitted that he "felt pretty good for a while," during the fast, James admitted that he would "have these dips, like 'wow, I feel pretty miserable.'"

Still, he boasted, "I lost, I think, like 60 pounds."

"I didn't even take vitamins," he added, noting that the drastic diet "cleansed everything out of me."

However, James noted that his method for dieting wasn't effective in the long-term, as he "blew back up" as soon as he stopped fasting.

"I'm not saying it's the way to go for everybody, I don't know," he confessed.

While long-term fasting or "crash diets" can produce quick results, the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) stresses the risks that can come with such drastic diets, including poor nutrition, low blood sugar, dehydration, weakness, hair loss, abnormal heart rate and rhythm, electrolyte imbalances and many more. The OAC doesn't recommend these methods of rapid weight loss without being "medically supervised."

And according to James, he has recently started to look into more sustainable ways to stay fit, which he believes often involves a healthy balance of diet and exercise without getting too down on himself.

"Just recently I've stopped comparing myself to other people and trying to just say 'get better than yourself yesterday,'" he shared. '"That concept for me works."
