Kevin Costner Gives More Insight Into Contentious Divorce
Kevin Costner's divorce proceedings have gotten more complicated.
In court documents shared by RadarOnline, Costner alleges that ex-wife Christine Baumgartner has been staying at his residence in Carpinteria, Calif. while refusing to move out, which is against the terms of their prenup.
According to Costner, all assets that they owned prior to their marriage would remain their respective separate property. This includes their family home, which he bought in 1988 and includes an adjacent home he uses for film editing.
He notes that their prenup clearly states that he "shall have immediate and exclusive use" of all of his separate real estate property and that "within 30 days of filing a petition of dissolution of our marriage, Christine shall vacate any family residential property owned solely by me." The deadline is said to have expired on May 31, since Baumgartner filed for divorce on May 1.
Costner also explained that he paid $1 million to Baumgartner, as well as some additional sums, with her earning approximately $1,450,000, "which she can use at her discretion, including to find alternative housing." He also said he told Baumgartner he'd be able to help her with "moving and living arrangements."
The actor also revealed in the court documents that both parties requested joint legal custody of their three children and have been working on a schedule to make sure there's a "smooth transition between our two homes."
Costner and Baumgartner married in 2004, six years into their relationship. Sources told People that the reason the handbag designer filed for divorce from the Yellowstone star was due to his busy schedule.
