Kevin Bacon recently revealed why he’s no longer eating pork, or certain other types of meat for that matter. The veteran actor, who’s named as one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive, sat down with the outlet to discuss his eating habits. It turns out his new diet was inspired by time spent on the Connecticut farm he owns with his wife, fellow-actor Kyra Sedgwick.

For the Leave the World Behind star, the bond he shares with his farm animals outweighs any cravings he might have for a hearty steak or slab of bacon. “I no longer eat goat and I no longer eat pig, because I have goats and I have pigs,” Bacon said. “My wife is like, ‘We can’t get any more animals, because you’re going to stop eating everything.’”

But animals are just one aspect of farm life that appeals to the veteran performer. “I love animals, they are a joy to be around, and they’re very, very calming for me. But we also really love to go into the garden and get fresh herbs or tomatoes or basil or peppers or zucchini,” Bacon said of his family.

“Taking something hot off the vine that feels warm and smells like it’s been created by all these natural forces of the sun and air and water and earth and dirt, and then putting it back into your body to sustain yourself…it’s a great lesson in terms of just how important it is to do our best to try to protect this boat that we’re all riding in,” he continued.

Bacon, who launched the interview podcast Six Degrees in September, said that as he’s gotten older, he’s felt more of a desire to cook meals for himself rather than rely on takeout or going out to eat. “I feel like if you’re always eating out or you’re always getting something to go, then you’re always giving your power over to the people that are going to prepare the food for you,” he explained.

“I can’t do that my whole life,” Bacon concluded. “I need to have a little bit more control over what I’m putting in my body.”
