Kerrygold

Kerrygold, the brand behind our editors and readers' favorite Irish butter, is in the news this week with three new exciting products. Seeing as Kerrygold is (in my opinion) the best butter for baking (especially shortbread), I was practically already sold before the products were even announced. However, I was actually lucky enough to get a sneak preview of these butters back in March. Here are my honest thoughts on the new Kerrygold Butter Blends.

Kerrygold Introduces New Butter Blends

Kerrygold has introduced a brand new line of savory flavored butters called Butter Blends. The Blends feature Kerrygold's signature creamy butter base and come in three flavors: Chive & Onion, Sundried Tomato & Basil, and Bell Pepper & Garden Herbs. Each Butter Blend is uniquely tailored to finishing, flavoring, and boosting different dishes. But do they live up to the high standard Kerrygold's original butter has set?

Are Kerrygold's New Butter Blends Good?

Of course they taste good, but my favorite flavor shocked me. My coworker and I got a sneak preview of the Butter Blends at a Kerrygold event back in March and were able to try all three. Each was delicious and truly unique—these aren't your grandma's garlic butter. We tasted all three on bread to let their flavors shine, and here are our thoughts.

The Chive & Onion is an instant classic and a fun riff on the usual garlic butter. It reminded me of the compound butter I make each spring when ramps are in season, and would be incredible on a steak or baked potato, or with pillowy Parker House rolls. In fact, this butter already earned a top spot in our sister brand People's 2023 Food Awards.

Sundried Tomato & Basil was deeply savory thanks to the titular tomatoes and transports you to an Italian countryside. I could instantly see this making grilled cheeses ten times better, or amping up pasta dishes galore. One of my favorite summer dinners is white fish cooked en papillote, or steamed in parchment paper, and I can't stop thinking about how a pat of this butter would elevate it instantly.

Finally, we tried the Bell Pepper & Garden Herbs Butter Blend. I wasn't really expecting to like this, let alone love it. I'm not a big fan of bell peppers, but this has a warming, herbaceous quality I couldn't put my finger on but loved. According to Kerrygold, this blend features paprika, oregano, basil, onions, garlic, and bell pepper, which would explain the Italian seasoning vibe I got from it. It's definitely not the strongest flavor of the three though, so I think this one is best suited for pairing with relatively plain carbohydrates like pasta, rice, and of course, bread.

But truthfully, all three were really delicious and would make a welcome, complementary addition to any set of weeknight staples.
