Chances are you're well acquainted with the iconique Kerry Washington (Mia Warren! Professor Dovey! Olivia Pope!), but you maaay not be as familiar with the actor's private life. For instance, you might not even realize she's married (!), and has been for nearly a decade now (!!). Per the Daily News, Kerry Washington's husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, fell for his future wife after he went with a mutual friend to see Kerry perform in Race on Broadway in 2010, and Kerry later confirmed the story during a 2018 interview with Marie Claire. "The last time I did theater, it completely transformed my life," she said. "That's where I met my husband." Cute!!!

Though things got off to a rocky start (Kerry apparently told Nnamdi she didn't date athletes, and Nnamdi told Kerry he didn't date actors), the two got together anyway, and just about three years later in June 2013, they tied the knot in a super low-key ceremony. According to the marriage license, Kerry and Nnamdi said "I do" in Hailey, Idaho, where Nnamdi's sister officiated, and Kerry's parents served as witnesses. Since then, the couple has welcomed two kids together—Isabelle Amarachi, born in 2014, and Caleb Kelechi, born in 2016—and are seemingly thriving outside of the spotlight. But we think it's time to learn a lil bit more about Nnamdi, don't you?

Here's everything you should know about Kerry's hubs, including how he rose to fame as a former NFL cornerback and what he's up to now.

He was a first-round NFL draft pick

After growing up in Louisiana in a Nigerian Igbo household, Nnamdi attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he played for the California Golden Bears football team. Soon after graduating, Nnamdi was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Oakland Raiders, which is v impressive, ICYDK. Over his 11-year professional football career, Nnamdi also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers, and in December 2013, the cornerback signed a one-day contract with Oakland so he could retire as a Raider. According to Nnamdi, the decision to retire at 32 was difficult, but it still felt like the right time for him. "Yeah, I felt that it was a good time, but it didn’t make it any easier," he told UPROXX. "It's a game that 'til this day I miss, and I miss playing. It's not that I want to go play again, but I miss so many aspects of it; being around the team, being around the coaching, that calm before the storm."

He's now an actor and producer

Nnamdi first caught the acting bug all the way back in 2008, when he landed the role of "Party Guest with Wife" on the CW sitcom The Game. (Remember: There are no small roles, only small actors!!) He then caught the eye of director Peter Berg on the set of a Nike commercial shoot in 2009, who was impressed by the athlete's ease in front of the camera. From there, Nnamdi went on to play small roles in Friday Night Lights, Leverage, and Cubed before making his on-screen feature film debut in 2012's Fire with Fire.

Since retiring from the NFL, Nnamdi has fully committed himself to his acting career with starring roles in the films Crown Heights, Sylvie's Love, and The Good Nurse, as well as the Quibi series When the Streetlight Go On. Oh, and he also served as producer for Crown Heights, Sylvie's Love, and The Banker and an executive producer for Beasts of No Nation, Halfway, Harriet, and Nanny. NBD!!

Despite all his success, Nnamdi still remains as modest as ever, avoiding social media and press to instead focus on his craft. "I'm really bad at self-promotion. I know that about myself," he explained to Bleacher Report. "People told me all of the time, 'You could be such a big star if you just talked about yourself more,' but I'm not good at that. It's always been about team."

He has a daughter from a previous relationship

During a 2018 interview with Today, Kerry corrected a host when they alluded to her two children, saying, "I'm a mother of three." The reason: Nnamdi has a now-teenage daughter from another relationship, who Kerry has helped raised alongside her two biological children. And just like with Isabelle and Caleb, the couple keeps their eldest far from the paparazzi, so very little is known about her.

As Kerry joked to PEOPLE, "I have moments where I take pictures or videos of one of my three amazing kids and I wanna post it online, and I tend to just send it to my parents or my shrink instead."

He has his own foundation

Philanthropy is important to Nnamdi, which is why he created the Asomugha Foundation in 2005 at the very beginning of his career. The foundation has two main programs: Orphans and Widows In Need (which provide food, shelter, medicine, vocational training, literacy efforts, and scholarships to widows and orphans in Nigeria) and Asomugha College Tour for Scholars (which takes selected students from Bay Area and Los Angeles Area high schools on college tours across the country).

According to Nnamdi, he was raised to believe that performing acts of charity was part of life. "I was taught from a very young age that giving to others is what we're supposed to do," he told SUCCESS. "My parents were among the first families from their area to leave Nigeria and come to America, the land of the free. Once they got here, whatever they earned, they made sure to send some of it back. And they made sure that their children understood the importance of giving back, too."

He'd love to collaborate with his wife

Though Kerry and Nnamdi are both actors and producers, it isn't often that they work together on creative projects. Back in 2017, Nnamdi told Vanity Fair that it's possible he and his wife would co-produce a project at some point. "We would produce," he said. "We'd probably produce before acting, I would think." The following year, his production company, iAm21 Entertainment, helped produce American Son, a Broadway play starring Kerry, and hopefully, that won't be the last time the two are involved in the same project.

As far as sharing the screen goes, however, Nnamdi doesn't think that will ever happen. As he told The New York Times, "I produced American Son, but as actors, there's no plan as of now for that collaboration. We're very supportive of each other's journeys, but we've always been that way. We always want the best for each other in whatever we're doing."

It's official—we're obsessed. Keep on being adorably low-key, you two.
