Kerry Washington Is Wearing the Prettiest Rainbow-Wrapped Braids for the Holidays

There are plenty of ways to get festive with your hair for the holidays. You can wear a sparkly barrette or headband, fully transform your hair into a Christmas tree à la Katy Perry, or even commit to dyeing your hair red and green. As Kerry Washington kicks off the holidays, she's decided to go a colorful route, too — but not by dyeing her hair, and not in the typical colors of the season.

On Saturday, the actor shared a stunning selfie with her more than five million Instagram followers before hopping on a plane. "Early morning flight shine ✈️✨," she wrote in the caption. "Safe travels home for the holidays! 💕Xox." She also thanked Natasha Crisp, known on Instagram as @browngirlbraidsofficial, for her incredible new hairstyle: two thick braids with golden highlights — one on each side of her head — wrapped with a gradient rainbow thread.

Allure reached out to Crisp, who explained how she achieved the look, which is totally doable at home. "The style is a feed-in braid extension with metallic rainbow string to add fun and flair to a classic look," she said. "It is simply done by wrapping the string in a cross pattern going down the braid."

Fans and famous friends alike are loving the look. "Gorgeous," Tracee Ellis Ross wrote in the comments. One fan said, "I love your braids!!! 💗✨," while another commenter declared, "Your hair is really cute!"

Washington has changed up her hair a lot throughout 2019, with styles like super-long twists, a wavy bob, and short, tight curls. Inevitably, she'll move on from this adorable look, too, but we'd totally understand if she decided to ring in the New Year with these beautiful braids.
