Kerry Washington Is Stunning in Whitney Houston's 1996 Red Halter Dress

Kerry Washington attended the American Black Film Festival Honors over the weekend in a dress full of meaning.

The Little Fires Everywhere star made an entrance at the ceremony yesterday in a vibrant red velvet halter dress which was once worn by music icon Whitney Houston.

The Marc Bouwer gown, with ruched details throughout, went down to her ankles, and celebrity stylist Law Roach paired it with a set of bright red pumps to match. The ensemble was further elevated with diamond stud earrings and large diamond rings. Washington's red manicure matched her dress; as for makeup, she opted for shimmering silver eyeshadow, pink blush, and a rosy nude lip. Her hair was down in silky waves with a side part.

Houston wore the same dress to perform at BET's Walk of Fame awards gala in 1996. (The Black Entertainment Television's award ceremony honors Black music industry talent and benefits The College Fund/UNCF. Following the awards ceremony, the honoree of the year is enshrined with a plaque installed on the network's Walk of Fame in Washington, D.C.)

"What's cooler than wearing Whitney Houston's dress?" Washington asked while lip-synching Houston's 1992 hit "I Have Nothing," in a video she shared on Instagram.

"No lies told. Whitney Houston's actual @marcbouwer dress she wore in 1996. So incredibly special. #ABFFAwards here I come!" the actress captioned the post.

The 5th American Black Film Festival Honors: A Celebration of Excellence, took place Sunday at the 1 Hotel in West Hollywood.
