It may be a costume, but she looks incredible.

Dark hair is a staple for Kerry Washington. Almost every time we see her, she's trying out a new hairstyle, but her black hair is almost always the one constant of her look. Beyond the one time she experimented with copper-colored locs, we haven't really gotten a sense of what she would look like with different hair—until Halloween, that is.

On October 31, the Scandal star posted an Instagram carousel showing off her makeover for the holiday, where we not only got to see her with huge tattoos, but with bright orange ginger hair

Washington channeled Sha'Carri Richardson, the track superstar and fastest woman in America. Her costume came complete with all of Richardson's signatures, including her athletic gear, headband, ultra-long nails, tattoos, and fiery red hair.

Though the entire transformation was one of the best of the year, we couldn't stop staring at Washington's new hair color. The bright ginger wig traveled down to her chest and was full of crisp waves. Just like the track star, she had a small ponytail on the top of her head that added bounce and height to her hair while also providing a subtle frame to her face. She looked so good she should consider going red for real.

Though it's just a Halloween costume, her hair follows the trend of numerous celebrities adding shades of copper to their hair. Cowgirl copper, extreme copper, and even cherry red have found their way onto the heads of everyone from Cardi B to Megan Fox, Issa Rae, Julia Fox, and more. Not only that, red, in general, has captivated the whole of the beauty and fashion world, finding its way into everything from nails to clothes to lips.

"Less than 2% of the world's population has red hair, so a copper-red is definitely a bold and declarative hair color," Jamie Wiley, pro hair colorist and Global Artistic Director at Pureology, previously told us. "It looks great on all skin tones, with the warmth of the color bringing a healthy brightness," so it makes sense why so many people are gravitating towards it as the weather gets colder—even if only for a Halloween costume.

The rest of Washington's look was just as good. As mentioned, she added fake tattoo detailing to her skin—a serpent on her left bicep, a squiggly tattoo on her chest, and some more floral tattoos on her forearm, just like the runner.

Washington also wore a one-to-one replica of Richardson's tracksuit, even down to the paper nameplate she pins on before a race. Finishing the look off with two nose piercings and long square-shaped nails to fully emulate the record holder.
