In a fringed knit shawl that's straight out of Vanessa Hudgens's Coachella lookbook, Kerry Washington channeled the niche aesthetic of 2010s boho-hippie-indie-hipster during her latest red (well, black) carpet appearance. If this doesn't prove 2010s style is coming back, I don't know what does!
At Elle's Women in Hollywood event, the Scandal star, opting to go necklace-free, wore a smoky eye and an entire ensemble straight off the runway of Ralph Lauren (one of the night's sponsors), which included pants, a top, a belt, and a shawl.
She carried a small black clutch and wore her hair in a blunt bob parted right in the middle, a corporate contrast to the ’70s/Western style of the rest of her outfit.
Here's Washington posing it up.
Here's a model in the same style walking in the Ralph Lauren spring-summer 2024 show.
And here's Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella in the machine-washable version of this garment in 2012.
Also, a model then named Hailey Baldwin, also at Coachella, in 2016.
Should we break out the flower crowns and ironic mustache temporary tattoos or is Washington going to elevate this look beyond its musicfest moment? After all, the style is more ’70s than anything, and we'd love to see her try it with jeans instead of black slacks.
Because the thing is Kerry Washington can pull off pretty much anything. Though she sticks to polished feminine ensembles, she recently experimented with activewear and orange hair and it totally worked. Okay, it was for Halloween, and she was dressed as Sha'Carri Richardson, or in her case, Sha'Kerry.
The Scandal actor chose to copy the track star's 2021 US Olympic Track and Field trials look and skipped no detail, from the nails to the tattoos to the nose stud. And the orange hair. And it totally worked!
